Do Unto Others
Remember when red and blue used to just be fun crayon colors instead of opposing political ideologies? The divisions now symbolized by blue and red seem to get more entrenched with each passing day. Election season further heightens the divisiveness and ratchets up our anxiety everywhere, including at church. Indeed, churches often serve to make the divisions worse.
But, what if we actively worked to make church a purple zone where red and blue come together to cultivate kindness, compassion, humility, respect, and love. Choosing this path isn't about avoiding our differences or denying our individual passions, but about navigating them with respect and compassion for each other. We will explore this purple zone in worship for five Sundays starting on August 18 as we worship with the theme Do Unto Others.
