Bless this Mess: Providence Observes Lent

At its heart, Lent is a six-week journey of transformation — and transformative journeys can be messy. This year, you’re invited to observe Lent through our “Bless This Mess” calendar designed to help you and your family as we travel with Jesus through the valley of the shadow of death into newness of life.

The calendar in the form of a beautifully-illustrated series of cards are intended to lead us to Easter through simple candlelight services, confessions, scriptures, bite-sized meditations, daily practices, and blessings as we travel the road to the empty tomb. Forty cards in all (including one for Ash Wednesday)!

From caring for God’s creation to fighting for racial justice and equality, the calendar’s themes and activities are both accessible and challenging. Conversation starters and concrete daily practices round out this resource, helping to ensure that this Lent, we connect with each other (even if socially-distanced), work toward repairing God’s world, and look ahead to the new life of Easter morning.

Staff are preparing a set of cards for each Providence family to be delivered prior to Ash Wednesday. As a companion to the physical cards, you may follow along here.
